Kasabian New Album Makes Them a Top British BandWest Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum Creates Massive Demand for UK Tour
Kasabian, who emerged as the UK's best new pop and rock music group over the last few years have added another date to an almost sold out tour as album receives acclaim.
2009 has been a big year for Kasabian, one of the UK's biggest rock and pop bands: their new album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, got to number one and has been nominated for September's Mercury Prize Ceremony and they played successful headlining festival shows before announcing a new British tour that has all but sold out. Noel Gallagher of Oasis is quoted in an interview available on the Kasabian website (Audio and Video: Backstage on Tour) as declaring West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum to be as great and majestic as Mount Fuji. Kasabian Members and BackgroundKasabian are Tom Meighan (vocals), Sergio Pizzorno (guitar/vocals), Chris Edwards (bass) and Ian Matthews (drums). They have been compared to Manchester indie bands such as Primal Scream and Oasis, but Kasabian consider themselves to have more varied influences. The band formed in Leicestershire in the late 1990s, and their eponymous debut album was released in 2004. A live album recorded in the Brixton Academy followed the next year, and their breakthrough opus, Empire, the year after. The album had an anti-war message, and the title track broke into the UK top ten. Kasabian have not looked back. West Ryder Pauper Lunatic AsylumAfter two years of touring and recording Kasabian released West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum as their third studio album in June 2009. West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum debuted at number one in the UK album charts and held on to the prestigious spot for a second week. The first single released from the album, an anthemic classic called Fire, entered the UK charts at number three, making it their most successful single yet. Kasabian received reward for what they consider to be their best album to date when they were nominated for the Mercury Prize, which is an industry respected UK award that proclaims itself the most influential in Europe. The result will be announced on September 8th. The Full Track Listing for West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum is:
