The Veer Union Debuts Freshman AlbumAgainst the Grain in Stores Now
Canadian newcomers The Veer Union are blazing up the rock music charts with the band's debut album Against the Grain.
Rock newcomers The Veer Union have recently released the band's debut album Against the Grain. The Veer Union is currently touring and the single, "Seasons," is making its mark. The Veer Union BioThe Veer Union is a Canadian rock group that was formed in 2004. Crispin (vocals) and Eric (guitar) had been longtime friends. After departing the bands they were each playing in, the two buddies decided to try making music together. The duo composed together for several months, then set out to find other musicians who shared their creative vision. Through a mutual friend, they found Roots (bass) and Fid (guitar). The band was finally complete when Neil (drums) joined the team. After two years of constant touring, The Veer Union was signed by Universal/Motown Records. The band’s debut album, Against the Grain, was produced by Greg Archilla and Brian Howes. The Veer Union and the “You Can Be Anything" FoundationFor almost a year, The Veer Union has been working with the “You Can Be Anything" foundation. YCBA is a non-profit organization that offers scholarships, studio sessions, and tutoring to young musicians. In addition, the YCBA foundation raises money to keep music education programs in schools. The Veer Union assists the charity by playing shows at high schools around the country in an effort to inspire and educate teens about the music business. The Veer Union Debut – Against the Grain Although the band has toured with acts such as Hinder, Black Stone Cherry, Halestorm, Burn Halo, and Sick Puppies, The Veer Union has a sound all its own. The band’s debut album, Against the Grain, was released April 21, 2009, and is in stores now. The single “Seasons” is being noticed. It was recently featured on WWE’s Backlash 2009 and ESPN’s College World Series. It has reached #13 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart. Further, the radio friendly release sounds a bit like an all male version of an Evanescence-style tune. “Darker Side of Me,” a borderline rock/pop song, has a catchy rhythm and chorus as well. “Youth of Yesterday” is a traditional rock youth anthem with a good bridge. “I’m Sorry” is a power ballad that successfully shows the band’s softer side. Overall, the Against the Grain album is pretty good. Many of the songs sound similar to those that can be found currently on radio stations, however. The music is good, but does not stand out much. Fans looking for the typical rock/pop popular radio combination will like this record. Those wanting a harder true rock edge, however, may want to pass. The Veer Union is currently playing small shows throughout the U.S. The tour schedule is available on the band’s website.
